Digital Audio Electronics Engineer
Position: Digital Audio Electronics Engineer

Due to continued business growth we are looking to appoint a number of Audio Electronics Engineers to join our established team on a full-time permanent basis. This is an important position within the R&D team and you will be key in driving the development of new audio products from initial design, through to production and post-production maintenance.
 
The duties and responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
  • Assisting with the design, input and modification of digital & analogue electronic schematics, with guidance from the Chief Engineer and wider team.
  • Undertaking the building and testing of electronic prototypes.
  • Advising and assisting with the sourcing of components for prototype production and testing.
  • Writing and performing new audio product tests, recording and presenting results.
  • Setting up Speaker test environments.
  • Brainstorming new product ideas and technical requirements/ specifications.
  • Communicating with UK and overseas teams on project-specific topics.
  • Assisting other day-to day technical activities of the R&D department.
  • Possible, infrequent overseas travel as required - this is not essential, however can be an exciting opportunity for an engineer to broaden their knowledge and experience.
 
The ideally sought candidate will possess the following:
  • Degree qualified in electronics or similar engineering subject.
  • 2+ years’ commercial experience in electronic design, ideally in audio electronics.
  • Audio experience working with ADC/DAC (Analogue/Digital Converters) and associated components, Op-amps etc.
  • High speed digital electronics experience, working with microcontrollers, DSPs etc.
  • PCB layout experience.
 
The below skills would be beneficial, however not essential.
  • Commercial proficiency using Altium design software.
  • Appreciation of EMC and its considerations during design.
  • Experience using Audio Precision test equipment.
  • Experience with project coordination, helping to deliver a project from concept through to delivery.

Senior Service Engineer

Blackstar are recruiting for a unique position within our Service Department, a dream role for a guitar player who possesses an academic or commercial background in electronics, who is passionate about guitars and audio gear. The successful candidate would be joining our respected service team and you will play a key role in supporting our customers on a daily basis.

The role:
Blackstar are looking to appoint a Service Engineer to join our established business on a full-time basis. This is a very diverse position, but you will primarily be tasked with providing a first-class customer support and repairs service to Blackstar's Distributors, dealers and end users.
 
The duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Hands-on repair to component level of all Blackstar products to meet pre-defined performance targets.
  • Provide technical support to engineers in the field.
  • Implement new work flows and instructions as required providing reports on departmental performance (KPIs).
  • Ensure that the Blackstar service database is completed and up to date at all times.
  • Maintain Blackstar’s Service FTP site.
  • Oversee the efficient logistics of all returned products.
  • Management of the stock and logistics of spares and consumable parts.
  • Shipment of spares.
  • Liaising with UK dealers and end users on technical queries and service/repair issues.
  • Liaise with Quality & Approvals Assistant on all relevant technical and quality issues.
  • Liaise with UK Area Sales Manager on service and warranty issues as required.
 
You will also be involved with:
  • Overseeing the repair, servicing and dispatch of Blackstar loan stock.
  • Contribute to the Blackstar management team with pro-active suggestions and new ideas.
  • Implement and maintain 5S procedures.
  • KPI reporting as applicable to role.
  • Support HSE tasks and maintenance of a safe place of work as required with first aider/ fire marshall duties.
  • AQL Testing of each new delivery into UK Market and reporting any issues found.
 
The ideally sought candidate will possess the following:
  • Minimum HNC in electronics or associated engineering subject or 5 years’ experience of electronic service and repair of consumer audio equipment.
  • A demonstrable aptitude for electronics repair and will have been interested in guitar amps, consumer electronics and circuitry in a previous role.
  • Will have worked in commercial electronics environment in a similar role for a minimum of 5 years, with experience of talking to end users in both written and verbal form.

  • Knowledge of valve-based audio equipment

The role:
Due to continued business growth and large product roadmap, we are looking to appoint someone looking for a long-term career opportunity, who wants to help our team and business grow. This is an exciting and diverse position, where you will be primarily providing efficient DSP programming & testing in all Blackstar digital products, through full project life cycle – from early research and prototypes, through to mass production.

The duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to
  • DSP algorithm development, implementation and optimisation
  • This includes both high-level modelling (MATLAB, C/C++, VST plug-ins) and assembler-level optimisation on the target platforms
  • Testing own code, both digitally and sonically on amps and products throughout the process.
  • Assisting in project planning, scoping and problem solving in terms of software
  • Other duties within skill set but not necessarily role scope as and when (creative design input, attending meetings etc.)

  • Several years (minimum 2+) commercial experience as an Audio-specific DSP Engineer

Supply Chain Manager

Due to continued business expansion and a record-breaking year, Blackstar are looking to recruit an experienced Supply Chain Manager to help ensure the continuity, consistent supply and delivery of Blackstar products through our established Supply Chain function.
 
Working within our senior Executive Management Team (EMT), the successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the key functions of procurement and mass production, supply chain, inventory control, Far East consolidation and warehousing, UK logistics and warehousing. As Supply Chain Manager you may on occasion be required to travel between UK sites and suppliers overseas.

We are looking for a charismatic, driven, passionate individual looking to cement a long-term role with us. The role is key to the smooth running of our business operation.

The duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to
  • Overall responsibility for the Blackstar supply chain and managing the Supply Chain Team.
  • The hands-on management of the continuity and consistency of supply and inventory control of Blackstar products.
  • Management of supply chain and inventory KPIs.
  • Working in accordance with Blackstar’s OEM strategy.
  • Day to day monitoring of Blackstar OEM, logistics and 3PL performance and prompt intervention where required.
  • Strategic management of UK and Far East warehousing and shipping functions in conjunction with the Sales and Finance departments.
  • Maintenance of the current Blackstar UK premises and planning for future requirements.
  • Periodic overseas visits to OEMs as required.
