So I keep reading conflicting descriptions so here is a fairly straight forward question to help clear the air. For myself at least.

Looking in the back you have the input jack on the right of the amplifier.

Where are: V1, V2, V3, V4 (phase Inverter) located?

And what does each one effect?

I'd like to know what the ECC82 does. I'm happy with JJs for the 83s but I'm still using the stock 82 and wondered if I'd improve things by replacing it. From memory the 82 is the second from the left looking from the back.

Okay I am not sure about the actual positions on the 50......

the answer though is YES, a JJ ECC82 (phase inverter) will make a huge difference), you can't go wrong with that.

In my case I have 5 pre amp tubes, looking from the back of the amp and starting from right is

V3= clean Channel

V4=Crunch channel;

v5= OD1 and 2 channels

v1= first gain stage

v2=Phase inverter

In your case, your amp doesn't have an OD1 and 2 therefore the above should apply in a similar manor.

Thanks

Can vouch for this as a replacement 82 in the S1:

NOS Military grade Phillips Jan 6189w

Paired with JJ 83's and Winged C EL34's, my S1 never sounded better

3 V4 V1 V2 Trafo

V3 for clean chanels ECC83
V4 for crunch and super crunch chanels - ECC83
V1 First stage. ECC82 (All chanels).
V2 Phase Inverter ECC83 (All chanels). The Most important Tube in the Previo.

The ECC82 can't be changed to any other position. It doesn't work properly. The amp lose a lot of volumen.

Same configuration in S1 45 Combo.
