Re: HT 1 help

How long did the original tubes last you. Sometimes I wonder if this HT1R is a bit hard on tubes. It could be my imagination though.

Re: HT 1 help

I believe the original stock tubes in mine were a TAD and a Sovtek. I cannot remember if the Sovtek was in the preamp slot, or not.

Re: HT 1 help

That sounds reasonable as the Tung-Sol preamp can be on the bright side. The reason I decided to stick with that bright sounding tube is due to my Classic's neck '59. It sometimes is not as bright as I want. I have no problem with the '59 bridge. That's the trick to trying to master playing electric...

Re: HT 1 help

I'm thinking that you already approve of your additions to the HT1R? The Tung-Sol tubes do make it brighter, but after the tubes get warmed up after, say 30 minutes of playing, some of the highs start to disappear. It's probably normal, but I like a bright tone. Sometimes I put an JOYO e.q. pedal in...

Re: HT 1 help

One thing about the HT1 amp and other 1-watt or low watt amps on the market is this. Don't be afraid to play the HT a bit louder than you might play a solid state amp. Those SS amps can sound quite good at low volumes that one would be apt to use in the home. The HT 1 has to be played with sufficien...

Let us know how you like both of those swaps, won't you?

Re: HT 1 help

When your budget allows, you can go another direction in time, but there are some good tones in the HT1R combo or head. The head is popular with those who like to use different speaker cabs and configurations. The combo version IMO has a "Bassman" vibe going on in the clean channel. The gain side to...

Re: HT 1 help

Yes. Tung-Sols do brighten the amp, but there are some on this forum who think they provide a bit too much gain on the amp'a gain channel. That's why I wrote about not setting the gain control too high when using that channel. Do a search on tubes for the HT1 on these forums for opinions on optional...

Re: HT 1 help

What Phantom wrote is good advice for you. Send it back for a replacement. I have one that was a restock from MF and I been playing it for over 2 1/2 years. The stock speaker is OK, but can get raspy on the gain channel when pushed. The stock tubes are OK, but I have Tung-Sols and they do sound bett...

Re: What do I have? HT-1SE?

A happy ending, indeed. All my dealings with MF have been good ones in the past. Their marketing dept. should pay more attention to product descriptions. I bought the HT1R combo over 2 1/2 years ago from MF. It was a re-stock item at as reduce price and their service along with the quality of the am...
