Re: My experience upgrading tubes and speaker for HT-1R

It has not been an issue with my HT1R combo. The back Of the cabinet on the HT1R shows the ohm range for speakers. I had good luck with Blackbird for over two years, but got tired of the rasp in the highs. The Celestion Eight Fifteen is tighter sounding without the rasp, although the Blackstar "soun...

Re: Tube Sockets & Tube Pins

Yea, it could be exactly what you initially said....that the actual act of changing tubes roughs up the contact points enough so that everything makes a better connection. The next time it happens, a really interesting experiment would be to pull the tubes, clean everything and then put the same tu...

Re: Tube Sockets & Tube Pins

None of the three pairs are not what you'd call "old" or well-used. All tubes are Tung-Sol labeled. No one pair is better or worse than the other pairs. None have had more use than the others, either. The one constant between the three pairs is that after a few months (4 or 5) the highs start disapp...

Re: Tube Sockets & Tube Pins

It's possible. Personally, when changing tubes I always clean and re-tension tube sockets. Since it's cathode bias, it could also be the amp responding to the different bias curves of the different tubes (even tubes of the same brand can have bias differences). Or, if the tube sets are of different...

Tube Sockets & Tube Pins

My HT1R combo was sounding a little lifeless and not as bright sounding as it did when 4 months back, I put in a new set. I was discouraged after spending a tidy sum on these new replacements. So, as an exercise, I put in the previous pair which six months ago or so, also started to sound dull. Low ...

Re: How did you end up with a Blackstar

I found evidence on YouTube and user reviews all over the net three years ago and then took the plunge back into tubes in the form of the HT1R combo. It has tuned out to be better than I expected and cost far less than the other 1-watt offerings with the bigger name label and bigger price too. I'd s...

Re: HT 1 help

Darn good thought, it is! It would be interesting to know (and I'm guessing BS would never reveal) the method they use to get optimal tone from the HT line of amps. My sense tells me BS is more concerned with tone than tube life in such a competitive amp market? I do know in a quick discussion with ...

Re: HT 1 help

My tech probably has a tester, but he's an hour's ride away. I wouldn't claim the the HT1R eats the tubes because, I am still learning the "feel" of the amp now that I have the Celestion in it. Some reviews of this amp consider it "warm" sounding. That warm sound might be attributed to the fact that...

Re: HT 1 help

Phantum, That's one reason why I elected to go with a decently rated smallish' tube amp (my HT1R) with as simple a tube compliment as this amp has. The cost and quality of tubes put me off getting anything bigger as well as the need for a practice-recording unit designed for home use. My results wit...

Re: HT 1 help

My HT1R combo has Tung-Sols in both preamp and a 12AU7 as a power tube. Not so long ago, my tech told me that today's vacume tubes are made on "decades-old " equipment that was sold to the companies around the world now providing them for the market. He's an electronic engineer as a profession and h...
