Re: Valve Advise

You shouldn't have to throw a bunch of money at it to get decent tone. The newer V30's are known to sound harsh to some but that being said, they are a lot of guys favorite speaker with the HT-5. Something is not right with your amp. If I turned my treble any lower than about 11:00, it would sound l...

Re: Valve Advise

Hi I mainly use a Gibson Les Paul Traditional and a Fender USA Strat. Of the two, the LP sounds best through my Blackstar but the Strat is very harsh especially on the bridge pickup. I have the treble off, mid to 3 o clock and bass full. It still sounds rather harsh and has too much treble. My Cube...

Re: Valve Advise

Welcome Salraine!

What are the rest of your settings? What style of music do you play? Single coils or humbuckers? My cube has way more treble and harshness than my HT-5RH. In fact, I need to use a boost to get the high mids to pop the way I want with HT5. Tungsol preamp tube, stock power tube.

Re: Would the HT-20 have more sustain or "growl" than the HT-5?

Hmmm, again my HT-5 certainly sustains longer than that.

Maybe you could just have a master volume added to your 22H.

This guy mods Jet city amps... might be worth an email. (I have no affiliation)

He has a Facebook page: BFG amplification

Re: Question about new Version of HT-5RH!

I've seen some decent sales on the older non-reverb models.... maybe those are on their way out. As for the cabs and speakers, I don't like the Blackbird speaker at all. If was to do this all over again I would order either 2 1x12's or a 2x12 from someplace like Avatar with quality speakers. (I play...

Re: Would the HT-20 have more sustain or "growl" than the HT-5?

My HT-5 sustains just fine. The growl..... You will never get that pushed Marshall 2203 with EL34 midrange, punch you in the stomach growl from an amp driven by a single 12BH7 tube.

The HT-20 will be closer but at a higher volume and it's voiced more modern and darker than the 5.

Re: Seeking alternative to the HT-5's dull sounding cabs

I plan on replacing the blackbirds in my mini, don't like them at all. When I do, I am going ask the speaker manufacturer (WGS or Scumback) if it would be a good idea to close the backs of the cabinets while I'm at it.
