Re: HT40 Preamp tube swap

THe HT 40 uses a solid state phase inverter. I would suggest TungSol or JJ 12AX7's which have their own specific sound, but both have a greater reliability over the stock Sovtek and have very low noise levels. They are fairly cheap so feel free to experiment!

Re: Finally new preamp tubes, wow!

If your bridge pup sounds too trebly basically all the time, try adjusting the height of the pickup at the "treble" side before tweaking the EQ on the amp. You can also reroute the bottom tone control of your guitar to the bridge pup.

Re: i stand corrected on the loop

I use a lot of my Line6 M13 effects in the loop of my HT40, works and sounds great! However personally I like the phaser in front of the amp better, right after my wah and compressor and before any of the drives. The phaser can be regarded as a time based effect (like the chorus or flanger -> fx loo...

Re: Speakers and HT Venue

I'm using a Classic Lead speaker and changed the closed backplate for a self made 2/3 open plate. Provides a more open and dynamic sound on stage, like a Fender combo. The Classic Lead has a larger magnet so the open back is 'possible'. Furthermore Classic Lead has a rather neutral voicing, so no mi...

Re: Crunch tone

I suppose you mean by crunchy a milder overdrive? Crunchy tone on the clean channel: V1 TungSol 12AX7, depress the voice switch, turn up the volume and reduce the master volume, very nice crunch! However I wanted my clean channel fenderish (voice switch pressed) and want a crunchier tone on the driv...

Re: Speaker and tube combinations for HT40

I found no headroom change between TS and Sovtek, but rather a tonal difference and noise difference. The TS in V1 is far superior in sound and noise.

Re: Speaker and tube combinations for HT40

12AX7 in V1: With the voicing switch out, there is a nice crunch at higher volume. The signal breaks up Vox like if you will (mid-rangy). With the voicing switch in (F-style), the clean headroom is enlarged and basically stays clean (more bottom end and sparkling high end). So with the voicing switc...

Re: Speaker and tube combinations for HT40

Currently installed in my HT40: V1: TungSol (V1) 12AX7 V2: NOS 5965 (=12AY7) Powertubes: Stock TAD EL34B Speaker: 12" Celestion Classic Lead Backplate: a custom made semi-open backplate, more F-style surround sound on stage, the Classic lead has plenty of bottom end by itself. Before I used to have ...

Blackstar modded HT-40 gigsound

Just received a clip from a gig we played last week. I play in an allround coverband using an HT-40 with Classic Lead Speaker, 2/3 open backplate and Tungsol preamp tubes, complemented with a Line6 M13 and expression pedal for the wah. Here we play ALIVE from Pearl Jam: ALIVE - Pearl Jam cover Anoth...
