Re: Recommend some tubes - HT-40 - vintage crunch/brown soun

Thanks a ton phantom!

I can solder but time is at a premium right now so I'm willing to buy a couple bias probes. I'm having trouble finding ones with 3 leads including the plate one though. I did find this, of which I could buy two.

That look decent?

Re: Recommend some tubes - HT-40 - vintage crunch/brown soun

The power tubes you are looking for are Svetlana EL34's. They are going to give you that old school, VH crunch sound you are looking for. Since you run a lower master volume, you'll want to try and find a pair with a "soft" or early breakup. A matched set will cost you around or just under $50. For...

Re: Ht 40 effects loop switch and volume issue

It sounds like one of three things. In order of likelihood: a) The switch has accumulated some dirt inside of it - Switching it back and forth has helped, but you might want to pick up a small can of Deoxit and give it a cleaning b) There's a bad solder joint on one of the switch lugs - over time (...

Recommend some tubes - HT-40 - vintage crunch/brown sound

I have an HT-40 and am hearing some new buzzy sounds and experiencing some random volume output loss so I'm ready to try some new tubes. I'm guessing the power tubes are my problem but might as well have some fun and do all 4 (~$150 budget). The options are kind of overwhelming so I could use some s...

Right on. Have you needed to change out tubes or the speaker to get the sound you want on the HT-40?

This HT-40 is so dang versatile!

After owning the HT-40 for 6 months now I can say that it sure makes it hard to have PAS (pedal acquisition syndrome). At least for dirt and overdrive pedals. From 70's ZZtop to 80's Van Halen to 90's Metallica this amp always gets me there. Of course it has a wider range than that. Loving the clean...
